I think the frame #'s on series 1's are a bit hard to research. In my digging around it looks like both of my series 1's are off the charts. My very original stock 1959 is # 125Li 595208 and the one I just picked up is 125Li 561907. Anyone out there have a series 1 with frame # outside the box?

Yes mine was not in the charts for Ser 1...
It was more like a ser 2 number if I remember correctly.
It was definately a ser 1 though.

Here is a photo of the VIN.

and now yours...

I think someone needs to update their frame # list. Maybe one guy made a list a long time ago and everyone else just copies it. Who knows? I did check out the Definitive History book by Vittorio Tessera and there are some changes in the series 1's. It talks about the fuel tank getting a vented cap (mine has the vent tube), and the rear brake pedal getting a splash guard (this one has none). But it says nothing about those holes in the rear of the frame. There is a picture on page 265 that shows a frame like this one with the vent holes and the scoop intake. Learning is fun. frustrating, but fun. Smile

I see you have been down this road Izzy. In your checking did you ever find anyone who had a frame with proper #'s? It seems like everyone has late #'s. Do any members have a 58 Li?

From all the digging around It looks like this one was made after December 58 and before March of 59. I think they were just using up the frame breather frames by punching the hole for the scoop intake under the seat. I'm holding out buying anything for a while in hopes that the previous owner comes up with some parts. I am cleaning up what I do have. It may be a while before this one hits the road again, but It will be a fun project.

Just found another Ser 1 with VIN 810379

What year is it?

I want the seller to make out a correct receipt for it.

I;d guess 58? but number suggests 59Series 2.
Weird.

Wow that is amazing. Cool OK it;s a 59.

I wonder how they came to be so far apart in physicality?

I'd love it if you'd send me a private note on the background of yours.
